It’s the 2nd of February, yes, you guessed it Spring is here! What better way to kick off a spring/summer blog post than with the master of preppy style himself, Tommy Hilfiger. The brand is synonymous with fine tailoring and preppy sportswear is always one of the most anticipated collections on the catwalk each season and this year is no different. I was excited by this seasons collection when I heard about the inspiration behind it, let me share an exert from the lookbook.
The Spring 2018 TOMMY HILFIGER Menswear collection celebrates speed and immediacy with a touch of vintage nostalgia. The collection gives a nod to Formula One racing pit crews with heritage workwear and a strong focus on denim. The look takes inspiration from the iconic shapes, bold colours and streamlined graphics of speed racers for a collection that reinvents the traditional all-American classics.
I am a huge Formula One fan so when I saw that a collection was based on an aspect of a sport I love, I couldn’t wait to check it out. As you would expect, there are many check and stripes in keeping with the theme. Here are some of my favourite looks and pieces from the collection.
While I was excited by the Formula One theme in the collection, it’s hard not to ignore the classic and stylish tailoring pieces that Tommy Hilfiger offer on a regular basis. From block colours, check suits and trench coats, there is something to suit everyones taste here. I think the casual suiting trend is going to be a big hit in the summer, giving off a very Hamptons like vibe with these outfits.
What’s an outfit without a pair of shoes! Classic dress shoes are a must for tailoring and the trainers really suit the Formula One theme. What I really did like was the hybrid mix of the casual dress shoe. I think these would add a new dimension to the smart casual look.
Saving some of my favourites until last. The accessories on offer this season are a mix between classic and fun. The classics include some great leather backpacks in classic tan and the fun really shone with racing stripe caps and bags, as well as some chequered flag items to capture the motor racing fans attention.
I hope you enjoyed looking through some of the collection. What was your favourite piece? Will you be picking up anything from it? Let me know in the comments below.
