Boohoo.com S/S15 Preview

Hi Guys,

I was invited to attend the Boohoo.com press preview for their S/S15 collection on Tuesday. The event was held in the Morrison Hotel on Ormond Quay in Dublin. It is a really stylish hotel and Burrell PR did a great job with the event. I didn’t know what to expect as it was my first press event but I was greeted by the lovely Leah from Burrell PR who showed me around and presented me with a goody bag and a drink from the drinks reception always a nice way to start an event! There was 2 rails for the mens collection it didn’t look like much but there was a lot of key pieces within that small space.

Many of the pieces I had already seen on both the website and the recent TV adverts. I found many pieces that I liked as I never imagined Boohoo  sold classic or dapper pieces but I was pleasantly surprised. There was quite a few and also many trend inspired pieces. All the pieces were inspired by the city of Manchester, this is where Boohoo.com is based.

This knitted bomber jacket was one item that caught my eye prior to the event and I fell even more in love with it as it was exactly as it was described on the website, which isn’t always the case when buying online.

There was many other items that caught my eye and here they are for you to shop til you drop.

But the one item that I hadn’t noticed at first but was brought to my attention by one of the Boohoo reps was this Suedette Bomber Jacket. Everytime I went back to the rails I was automatically drawn to it. It is definitely on my must buy list especially when there was a €50 gift card in the goody bag. This was a very generous thing to do especially when it was already a privilege to check out this seasons collection.

Overall it was a good event and it was very well run and I hopefully look forward to attending another event like it in the near future, good job Burrell PR and Boohoo!!

All these great items can be found at Boohoo.com

Hope you enjoy!!

Fantastic Florals

Hi Guys,

Well February is nearly over, so Spring should be well and truly here. Although in Ireland given the current weather you wouldn’t think it! One of the many trends that appears every Spring/Summer is florals. Yes I know florals, how original! This is often seen as a no go area for guys from my past experiences. The reasons usually given are as follows: florals are for girls, florals are only worn by gay guys, the colours are too bright, I’ll attract too much attention etc. Well on my recent travels to Marrakesh I stopped by the large Zara store in the more modern area of the city. I noticed a few items which I think will help solve this problem and prove that florals are for guys too!

Here are the items I mentioned earlier from Zara

If anyone is unsure when trying out a new trend then always start with accessories when doing so. This allows you to try out a trend without being too in your face. These pieces from River Island and Topman should help with this.

If and when you gain confidence from this t-shirts, shirts and maybe even jackets are the best way to show off this trend. Here is another few pieces which wouldn’t look out of place in any stylish man’s wardrobe. All of these items are easily paired with chinos or denim for a smart or casual look.

Well I hope you like these items, let me know what you think and share your pics and experiences of wearing florals.

Dapper Dilemmas: Conservative Dressing

Hi Guys

I was recently asked a question by a follower about conservative fashion. She had asked me about styling tips for her sons. I was told that her sons dressed quite conservatively and that everything on the blog might not be to their taste. Her beliefs on fashion are quite similar to mine because she believes that you have to dress well to feel well. With this information in hand, I set out looking for the ideal place to buy clothes that are conservative but stylish. The first place I immediately thought of was Next. My past experiences with Next have always been positive, I always found that I could find both classic and trendy pieces to suit young and old. Here are some pieces which I think are stylish but will suit someone who chooses to dress more conservatively.

Knitwear

Always a good place to start with as it is one of the first items that people take note of. Next provide a wide range of knitwear in a number of different styles and colours. The options provided are a crew neck, v-neck, shawl neck, cardigan or roll neck. All these items are priced from €28-34 which is great value for the quality you are receiving. The colours I would choose for the more conservative dresser are Navy, Grey and Burgundy. All of these are colours which will match well with others. They are staples that will last years and can be dressed up or down depending on what the occasion is.

Shirts

Another important item in every mans wardrobe is a good shirt. The most important shirt any man should and must own is a white shirt. Although some menswear sites say that you should have one good white shirt, I disagree and I suggest you buy two. These are a good dress shirt and an Oxford shirt. A good dress shirt is essential for all those special occasions as it is the making of any good suit. Dress shirts are measured in inches so please make sure you get your neck measured if you don’t know your size. It is also a blank canvas with regards to accessories meaning you can pair pretty much any colour tie and pocket square with it and it will look fantastic! The reason I suggested the Oxford shirt is because it is extremely versatile. It can be used casually and can also be used to smarten up any outfit. I would also suggest that a navy, blue or grey shirt should be purchased as again they will co-ordinate well with the items mentioned earlier. Last but not least a check shirt is also a must have for any wardrobe and my suggestion would be to pick up a blue and white check shirt for its versatility. Here are some items that I think match what I described well.

Denim/Chinos

Another essential in any mans wardrobe is a good pair of denim jeans and a good pair of chinos. Next can provide all of these as they come in a number of different fits and they also wash well. The fits include straight , slim, and skinny this is for both chinos and denim. There are also a number of other fits for denim which I haven’t mentioned. For Denim I would recommend a dark wash for smart wear and a blue wash for casual wear. Navy and Stone colours are the ideal for chinos as they are wardrobe staples and will go with most items. I would recommend a slim or straight fit for either as they give a good silhouette and the fit shouldn’t be too tight but this depends on your body shape.

Shoes

Shoes… probably the most important item in any wardrobe as they can make or break any outfit. The example of wearing scruffy shoes with a suit, it gives off a terrible impression and it simply just doesn’t work. I have a few examples here from next that will go well in any wardrobe. For formal and smart wear a pair of tan brogues and black derby shoes are the way to go. They tick all the boxes for smart attire and will go well with most suits. Whereas for casual wear a pair of box fresh white trainers always go down well. Just be sure to keep them clean!! For that tricky smart casual dilemma a pair of Chelsea boots in either tan or black would do the trick. I personally would prefer tan but everyone is different.

Jackets/Coats

Again we have another staple to discuss, jackets and coats are used to help us brave the elements, but they also can add a stylish layer to an already impressive outfit. Next once again provide a number of stylish options. Today I have chosen quilted and bomber jackets for casual wear. Both styles are extremely stylish and even though they can be worn casually they will smarten up any outfit. For a smarter coat I chose a single breasted navy in a military style and a double-breasted grey wool trench coat. While I personally have a preference for double-breasted the single breasted option is just as stylish. Finally a navy blazer, another must have in any stylish mans wardrobe. I have chosen a check blazer this time as I feel it is a classic piece. The check pattern also gives a nod towards a trend that doesn’t look like it isn’t going away anytime soon. Hoping that I do not sound repetitive all these items will co-ordinate well with each other. This will make it easier for you to put an outfit together effortlessly and make you look good.

Hope you enjoyed this post and I hope it helps anyone who feels that this blog post applies to them. I was not approached by next to do this post. I felt that their products best fitted what this blog post was about and the options that their stores provide for conservative men. All these items can be found at http://ie.nextdirect.com/en/.
