Dapper Dave Cash X Loake Shoes Dublin

While I am a proud Irish man and I try to support as many Irish businesses as possible, I’ve always had an appreciation for the quality clothes and shoes that are made in Britain. When Nick at Loake Shoes Dublin on Wicklow St asked me would I like to collaborate with them, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

I had always been familiar with Loake as I had seen their shoes featured on many of the magazines that I regularly read. Amazed by the apparent quality, I finally got a chance last December at the official store opening to look at these shoes. Let’s just say I wasn’t disappointed. They have an array of shoes to suit everyone’s taste and price points to suit most people’s budget.

Now to the most important bit! Which ones did I choose? If you follow me on social media, you’ll know that I chose the Brown Fearnley Brogue. It wasn’t an easy choice as the Navy Chelsea boots really took my fancy. Versatility won in the end as the brogues would go with a lot more items in my wardrobe. I have worn these a number of times since I’ve got them and I have to say that they are extremely comfortable and quite durable as they have survived unexpected trips where let’s just say you wouldn’t expect to wear your brogues (a trip to a cave!).
I was told by Nick that simple things like a regular polish and using a shoe horn will go a long way towards maintaining the life of the shoe. I was told that the back of the shoe is very much like the chassis of a car, if it’s bent or broken then it is pretty much useless. If the back of the shoe goes forward or bends, the rest of the shoe goes forward and puts it out of shape. I definitely learned something new that day!

This collaboration for me has been an experience. I have found out what it is like to own a high-quality pair of shoes and I won’t lie it’s something I could definitely get used to, as I found I took extra care of them. It goes to show that if you invest in something and look after it properly it is going to have a long life. Nick proved this as he said he has a pair of shoes older than the length of time some of his co-workers have been at the company. I also learned the importance of using a shoehorn. It is amazing how a piece of plastic can make a simple task of putting on a pair of shoes even easier while protecting the shoe at the same time. This is a lesson and a practice that all gentlemen should follow if they are not doing so already.

I would like to thank Nick for wanting to collaborate with me. Loake Shoemakers has been a brand I have admired for a long time, even more so when I found that they offer a repair service for your shoes.  Impeccabile dressing with Canali

When working with brands/clients in blogging, It’s always best to work with one that shares the same values as your own. When I was approached recently to write about Canali’s online collection, I wondered what did a high-end Italian tailoring brand and Dapper Dave Cash in common? Then it clicked with me, Canali’s Impeccabile collection is where our values match.  (more…)

The Thursday Tipple: Sharps Brewery

In this edition of The Thursday Tipple, I am going to go across the water to Cornwall in the U.K and review Wolf Rock Red IPA from Sharps Brewery. The ale got its name from the area in Cornwall where the Red IPA is made. I chose to review this drink because one I was intrigued by the mix of both the Red ale and the IPA and also it was on offer at €1 a bottle in my local Dunnes Stores. I’m a sucker for a bargain!
